Minimum Wage Hikes Begin July 1 in Montgomery County, MD and DC

Please note two minimum wage rate increases that go into effect next Wednesday, July 1, 2020 for Montgomery County, MD and the District of Columbia (DC):

Maryland’s statewide minimum wage for all employees increased last January to $11/hour (up from the state’s previous rate of $10.10/hour). This new level was part of the state’s scheduled minimum wage increase to $15/hour for larger employers (15+ employees) by 2025 and smaller employers (15 or fewer employees) by 2026. Virginia’s statewide minimum wage remains at $7.25/hour in line with the federal minimum wage level.

Also, for employers with employees based in DC, note that DC’s paid family leave benefit for employees begins July 1, 2020. In addition, reminder that DC employers must post their paid leave benefit notice in a conspicuous place at their workplaces. More resources are available at DC Paid Leave’s specialized website.
