Please note two minimum wage rate increases that go into effect next Wednesday, July 1, 2020 for Montgomery County, MD and the District of Columbia (DC):
- Montgomery County’s minimum wage increases to $14/hour for employers with 51+ employees; $13.25/hour for employers with 11-50 employees; and $13/hour for employers with 10 or fewer employees.
- The District of Columbia’s minimum wage increases to $15/hour for all workers (up from its current rate of $14/hour).
Maryland’s statewide minimum wage for all employees increased last January to $11/hour (up from the state’s previous rate of $10.10/hour). This new level was part of the state’s scheduled minimum wage increase to $15/hour for larger employers (15+ employees) by 2025 and smaller employers (15 or fewer employees) by 2026. Virginia’s statewide minimum wage remains at $7.25/hour in line with the federal minimum wage level.
Also, for employers with employees based in DC, note that DC’s paid family leave benefit for employees begins July 1, 2020.
