Employers Must Begin Using the Revised
I-9 Form
By December 26th
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration
Services (USCIS) released a revised form I-9 for employers
earlier this year. Employers have been encouraged to
use the revised form immediately, but effective December
26th all employers must use the newly revised form.
Employers who do not use the revised I-9 form on December
26, 2007 will be subject to all applicable fines and
penalties under the Immigration and Nationality Act.
Employers should be aware of the changes to the form
I-9. The most significant change is the elimination
of five documents from List A. Another change was to
add the most recent version of the Employment Authorization
Document (Form I-766) to List A. The employer handbook
with instructions for completing the form I-9 is available
to all employers.
You can go to http://www.uscis.gov/i-9
to download the revised form I-9 as well as the revised
Handbook for Employers, Instructions for Completing
the Form I-9.
