Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) issues 1000 notices of audits
Recently, ICE announced that 1000 new workplace audits will be conducted to hold employers accountable for their hiring practices, primarily to determine compliance with employment eligibility verification laws. The focus will be on audits of Form I-9s which employers are required to complete and retain for each employee hired.

COBRA Subsidy Extended
Congress recently approved the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, which includes provisions that extend the maximum duration of COBRA subsidies from 9 months to 15 months. The subsidy now is available to those who involuntarily lose their jobs through Feb. 28, 2010.
